Bryanston residents can expect a heightened police presence in identified crime hotspots following a recent meeting between the Sandton Police Station and community representatives. This initiative aims to address the growing concerns regarding various criminal activities, including house break-ins, vehicle hijackings, and street robberies, which have seen a noticeable increase in recent months. Colonel Thabo Mokoena, Station Commander of Sandton Police Station, confirmed the plans, stating, "We have listened to the community's concerns and are implementing a targeted approach. Our intelligence indicates specific areas and times where these crimes are more prevalent. We will be deploying additional patrols, both visible and covert, to these hotspots, particularly during peak crime hours." He added that the increased visibility is intended to act as a deterrent and improve response times to incidents. The decision comes after a series of community meetings where residents voiced their frustrations and anxieties regarding the perceived rise in crime. Mrs. Sarah van der Merwe, a long-time Bryanston resident and member of the Bryanston Community Policing Forum (CPF), expressed her relief. "This is a welcome development. We have been advocating for more visible policing for some time. Our community feels vulnerable, and knowing that the police are actively responding to our concerns provides a measure of reassurance." She further emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between residents and law enforcement. The Sandton Police Station also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately. They highlighted the importance of securing properties, being aware of surroundings, and avoiding unnecessary risks. The increased police visibility is part of a broader strategy that includes community engagement, intelligence gathering, and proactive crime prevention measures. Further updates on the deployment schedule and specific areas of focus will be communicated to the community through the CPF and local neighbourhood watch groups.
